Residential Projects

  • 1341 14th Street, N.W. (Barrel House) – seven story residential project with ground floor retail; special exception relief for roof structure setbacks and rear yard (ZR16).
  • 2213 14th Street, N.W. – seven story residential project with ground floor retail reusing existing three-story building on site; HPRB review (ZR16).
  • 1711 Florida Ave., N.W. – new seven story residential project in Adams-Morgan re-using portion of former building; height, roof structure, and loading relief.
  • 2221 14th Street, N.W. – new seven story residential project with ground floor retail on vacant site; HPRB review.
  • 8th & Florida Ave., N.W. – two new large residential buildings with ground floor retail on either side of 8th Street, N.W.; parking, loading, roof structure setback and lot occupancy relief (two separate BZA cases).
  • 1401 R Street, N.W. – conversion of former telephone exchange building to residential use with ground floor retail; roof structure, lot occupancy relief.

Retail, Hospitality & Other Projects

  • Wisconsin Avenue Baptist Church/Sunrise Senior Living – new church and assisted living facility on site a3920 Alton Place, N.W., at Tenley Circle. Special exceptions for assisted living use and multiple variances.
  • 1601 14th Street, N.W. (Le Diplomate Restaurant) – rear yard relief to convert former drycleaners building to restaurant.
  • St. Albans, N.W. – expansion of private schools (St. Albans School for Boys; Beauvoir).
  • 3600 Woodley Road, N.W. – expansion of private school (National Cathedral School for Girls).

Historic Preservation Review Board

  • Successfully challenged landmark designation of 150 S Street, N.W. and the Harrison Street, N.W. apartments and fostered the withdrawal of landmark applications for Chain Bridge Road, Wesley Heights house.
  • Advise property owners, developers and architects on securing HPRB design approvals.

Agency Appeals

  • Successfully defended second Mayor’s Agent order for the McMillan Sand Filtration Site before the D.C. Court of Appeals (Friends of McMillan Park v. District of Columbia Mayor’s Agent for Historic Preservation, 207 A.3d 1155 (D.C. 2019)).
  • Successfully defended construction of mausoleum at Oak Hill Cemetery in building code appeal to the D.C. Office of Administrative Hearings (2016 DCRA 00027).
  • Randolph v. District of Columbia Zoning Comm’n, 83 A.3d 756 (D.C. 2014) (Southwest Waterfront Parcel 11).
  • Fleishman v. District of Columbia Bd. of Zoning Adjustment, 27 A.3d 554 (D.C. 2011) (Hillcrest neighborhood residential development).
